A dance theatre performance dealing with the subject of control and the lack of it. It would seem that every one of us seeks total control over his or her life. Yet how come we get such a kick from riding roller-coasters, bungee jumping, parachuting, getting high or drunk, and doing everything to evade the gaze of our consciousness?
The setting of this work is a Park. Park in the sense of temporary parking, but More in the sense of a bordered "adventure" zone. We go the amusement park for the adrenalin rush, we soar and crash, experience unusual combinations of fear and excitement and achieve a nightmarish or dreamlike simulation of our biggest fears and desires - a simulation that will eventually end and vanish, as if it never happened. But the uniqueness of these rides is that there is no real danger in them, we do not fear crashing if we are assured of not reaching the ground. And it helps that there is a herd of hundreds in the line in front of and behind us. In these settings, we feel free to test our courage, and our limits that define who we are.
In our park, the rides are other people. You are my roller-coaster, I am your carousel, or your hall of mirrors. Just as in life itself, we use each other to feel something of the various possible sensations the park offers. Human fairground rides like these are destined for fatigue, wear and tear, and worst of all – the very real danger of injure, physical or emotional.
