Pixels on The Rocks was created during the inaugural year of Sugar Salon , alongside Bessie Award Winner Susan Marshall. The work was inspired by Ruttenberg’s return to the city, and the old familiar surroundings she had studied, worked and created in between 1999-2003. The work is influenced by the beat, architecture, noise, traffic, and the physical limitations in a big city at rush hour. The work travels back and forth between zoom-in to reach the microscopic level of pixels, and zoom-out to take a bird's eye view. The resulting is the “map” of living bodies moving through the organized labyrinth that is New York.
Pixels on The Rocks competed in the NO BALLET Competition in Ludwigshafen, Germany, and won 2nd prize at The A.W.A.R.D Show in New York.
